What are lab-grown diamonds and how do they differ from natural diamonds?

At MOND, we offer both ethically sourced natural diamonds and sustainably grown lab-created diamonds, giving you the choice that aligns with your values. Natural diamonds are mined with rigorous ethical standards, certified conflict-free, and sourced from suppliers committed to fair labour practices and environmental stewardship. Lab-grown diamonds are created in controlled environments using advanced technology, offering identical physical, chemical, and optical properties to natural diamonds—same hardness (10 on Mohs scale), brilliance, and crystal structure. Lab-grown diamonds require significantly less water and energy, produce minimal waste, and eliminate mining impact entirely. Both options are certified by leading gemological institutes (GIA, IGI) and represent the pinnacle of responsible luxury. Choose natural for timeless heritage and rarity, or lab-grown for environmental consciousness—either way, you're investing in a diamond created with integrity and care.

How do I choose the right diamond cut for my engagement ring?

The diamond cut is the most important factor affecting brilliance and sparkle, regardless of whether you choose natural or lab-grown. Round brilliant cuts offer maximum light return and timeless elegance, making them the most popular choice (representing 75% of engagement rings). Princess cuts provide modern geometric appeal with excellent sparkle. Oval, pear, and marquise cuts create the illusion of larger size and elongate fingers. Emerald and Asscher cuts showcase clarity with sophisticated step-cut facets and vintage charm. Consider your partner's style: classic elegance favours round or emerald; modern tastes lean toward princess or cushion; romantic styles suit oval or pear. Our expert consultants can guide you through cut quality grades (Excellent, Very Good, Good) to ensure maximum brilliance within your budget. Whether you select an ethically sourced natural diamond or a sustainably grown lab-created diamond, the cut quality remains paramount to achieving that stunning sparkle.

What do the 4Cs mean and which matters most?

The 4Cs—Cut, Colour, Clarity, and Carat—are the universal standard for evaluating diamond quality, whether natural or lab-grown. Cut determines brilliance and is the most critical factor; prioritise Excellent or Very Good grades. Colour grades from D (colourless) to Z (light yellow); we recommend D-F for colourless, G-H for near-colourless value. Clarity measures internal inclusions; VS1-VS2 grades offer eye-clean diamonds at excellent value, while VVS and IF grades suit purists. Carat indicates weight (1 carat = 0.2 grams); consider cut quality over size for maximum visual impact. Our philosophy: invest in cut first, then balance colour and clarity based on your priorities, and choose carat weight that fits your budget. Each MOND diamond—whether ethically sourced natural or sustainably grown lab-created—includes detailed certification documenting all 4Cs from independent gemological laboratories, ensuring complete transparency and confidence in your purchase.

Do you offer diamond certification and what does it include?

Yes, every MOND diamond comes with independent certification from world-renowned gemological laboratories including the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) and International Gemological Institute (IGI). These certificates provide an unbiased assessment of your diamond's characteristics including the 4Cs (cut, colour, clarity, carat), proportions, symmetry, polish, and fluorescence. The certificate includes a unique report number that can be verified online, detailed plotting of inclusions, and precise measurements. For our ethically sourced natural diamonds, certification confirms conflict-free status and ethical sourcing credentials. For our sustainably grown lab-created diamonds, certification verifies their laboratory origin and identical properties to natural diamonds. This documentation serves as your diamond's permanent record, essential for insurance purposes and future appraisals. We provide digital and physical copies of all certifications, and our team can explain every detail to ensure you understand exactly what you're purchasing. Certification guarantees authenticity, quality, and provides complete transparency in your investment.

What ring size should I choose and can it be resized later?

Determining ring size accurately is crucial for comfort and security. We offer complimentary ring sizers delivered to your door, or you can visit a local jeweller for professional sizing. Common methods include measuring an existing ring's inner diameter or using our printable size guide. UK sizes typically range from H to Q, with half sizes available. Most MOND rings can be resized up or down 1-2 sizes after purchase; we offer complimentary resizing within 60 days of delivery. However, eternity bands with stones around the entire circumference and certain tension settings have limited resize capability. If you're between sizes, we recommend sizing up for comfort, especially for wider bands which fit more snugly. Our customer service team can advise on resize options specific to your chosen design before purchase, whether you've selected an ethically sourced natural diamond or a sustainably grown lab-created diamond.

What metal should I choose for my engagement ring setting?

Platinum is the premium choice—naturally white, hypoallergenic, extremely durable, and develops a beautiful patina over time; ideal for daily wear and those with sensitive skin. 18ct white gold offers similar aesthetics to platinum at a lower price point, though it requires periodic rhodium plating to maintain its bright white finish. 18ct yellow gold provides classic warmth and vintage appeal, is highly durable, and complements warmer skin tones beautifully. 18ct rose gold delivers romantic, contemporary style with its pink hue created by copper alloy; increasingly popular for modern designs. Consider your partner's existing jewellery preferences, skin tone (cool tones suit white metals, warm tones favour yellow/rose), lifestyle (platinum for active wear), and budget. All our metals are ethically sourced and hallmarked to British standards, ensuring quality and authenticity. Whether paired with an ethically sourced natural diamond or a sustainably grown lab-created diamond, our metal selections reflect our commitment to responsible luxury.

How long does delivery take and what are the shipping options?

For in-stock items, UK delivery typically takes 3-5 business days via fully insured, tracked courier service. Custom-designed or made-to-order pieces require 3-4 weeks for expert craftsmanship and quality assurance. International shipping is available to most countries with delivery times of 5-10 business days depending on destination and customs processing. All shipments are fully insured, require signature upon delivery, and include real-time tracking. We use discreet, unmarked packaging for security. Express options are available for urgent orders. For proposals with specific timelines, contact our team to discuss expedited production and delivery. Every order includes complimentary luxury presentation packaging, certification documentation, and care instructions. We also offer secure collection from our London showroom by appointment for those who prefer personal handover. Whether you've chosen an ethically sourced natural diamond or a sustainably grown lab-created diamond, we ensure your precious investment arrives safely and beautifully presented.

What is your returns and exchange policy?

We offer a 60-day return and exchange policy on all engagement rings and fine jewellery, providing ample time to ensure complete satisfaction. Items must be returned in unworn, original condition with all packaging, documentation, and certificates. Custom-designed pieces and engraved items are final sale unless there's a manufacturing defect. To initiate a return, contact our customer service team who will arrange fully insured, complimentary return shipping within the UK. Refunds are processed within 5-7 business days of receiving the returned item. Exchanges for different sizes, metals, or designs are welcomed and we'll work with you to find the perfect piece. We also offer a lifetime upgrade programme—trade in your MOND diamond toward a larger stone of equal or greater value, receiving 100% of your original diamond's purchase price as credit. This applies to both ethically sourced natural diamonds and sustainably grown lab-created diamonds, allowing you to evolve your choice as your life unfolds. Our goal is your complete confidence and satisfaction in this important purchase.

How should I care for and maintain my diamond jewellery?

Diamonds are the hardest natural material but still require proper care to maintain their brilliance, whether natural or lab-grown. Daily care: Remove rings during heavy physical activity, cleaning, or applying lotions and cosmetics which can create film buildup. Cleaning: Soak in warm water with mild dish soap for 20-30 minutes, gently brush with a soft toothbrush, rinse thoroughly, and dry with a lint-free cloth; repeat weekly for optimal sparkle. Avoid harsh chemicals, ultrasonic cleaners for certain settings, and extreme temperature changes. Storage: Keep pieces separately in soft pouches to prevent scratching. Professional maintenance: We recommend annual inspections to check prong security and overall condition; MOND offers complimentary cleaning and inspection services for life. For white gold rings, professional rhodium re-plating every 1-2 years maintains the bright white finish. With proper care, your diamond jewellery—whether featuring an ethically sourced natural diamond or a sustainably grown lab-created diamond—will maintain its brilliance and beauty for generations to come, becoming a cherished heirloom.

Can I customise or design my own engagement ring?

Absolutely. MOND specialises in bespoke engagement ring design, allowing you to create a truly unique piece that reflects your personal story and values. Our design process begins with a complimentary consultation—either in-person at our London showroom or virtually—where our expert designers discuss your vision, preferences, budget, timeline, and ethical priorities. We'll guide you through selecting your perfect diamond: choose from our collection of ethically sourced natural diamonds with verified conflict-free and fair-trade credentials, or our sustainably grown lab-created diamonds with minimal environmental impact. Then select the metal (platinum, white/yellow/rose gold) and design the setting (solitaire, halo, pavé, vintage-inspired, modern minimalist). You'll receive detailed CAD renderings and can request modifications until the design is perfect. We then handcraft your ring using traditional goldsmithing techniques combined with modern precision technology. The entire process typically takes 4-6 weeks. Custom design costs vary based on complexity and materials, with transparent pricing provided upfront. This service ensures your engagement ring is as unique as your relationship, crafted with integrity and reflecting your commitment to responsible luxury.
